Since she was very young, Portia immersed herself in the food world. In 1991 Portia founded Slow Food Chicago which she co-led for 9 years. She was on the Slow Food USA Board of Directors followed by a position as Slow Food USA's Special Events Director. She's had nearly every job possible at the Green City Market: from selling mushrooms, to creating and running children's programs, to currently serving on the Board of Directors .
