Earth First Farms is a certified organic apple orchard and vegetable farm only 100 miles from Chicago. They are a small family farm, committed to bringing you the freshest, healthiest, most delicious apples and other fall produce that Southwest Michigan can produce – without harmful side effects on the environment or your health. Tom Rosenfeld lives in Chicago’s Rogers Park and is a staunch supporter of organic farming. Since 2005, he, his wife, Denise, and children Ryan, Sydney and Spencer have owned and operated the 45-acre farm in southwest Michigan. It contains more than 3,000 fruit-bearing apple trees. In addition to certified organic apples, Earth First Farms’ crop consists of award winning apple cider, apple butter, melons, strawberries and assorted vegetables. “I only grow things I’m excited about eating,” says Tom. “I have absolutely no interest in conventional farming.” In 2012, Tom entered the restaurant business, and is now the managing partner of Chicago’s historic Heartland Café, creating a direct farm-to-table experience. Heartland proudly serves Earth First Farms organic fruits and vegetables, as well as working with other local organic farms such as Breslin Farms. Through Heartland, Tom has greatly increased his commitment to organic food. Earth First Farms also offers u-pick, CSA and Rent-A-Tree programs.
