Donor Advised Funds

A donor advised fund (DAF) is an investment account meant just for supporting the nonprofit organizations you love. DAFs are one of the fastest-growing charitable giving channels in the US because they are one of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give. 

When you contribute cash, securities, or other assets to a DAF at a charitable giving fund, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction after transferring assets. Then, those funds can be invested for tax-free growth, maximizing your impact. You can recommend grants from your DAF to virtually any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Stocks + Securities

Donating appreciated securities such as stock, bonds, or mutual funds can be a tax-efficient way to give. Generally speaking, if you donate stock (or other securities) in which you have a long-term gain you can achieve the following benefits and tax advantages:

• An itemized tax deduction equal to the full market value of the appreciated stock

• No capital gains tax on the stock’s appreciation

• Your out-of-pocket cost is your cost basis in the stock only while Green City Market receives the full market value of the appreciated stock
