Volunteer Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer shifts with Green City Market typically last two to three hours and take place at our farmers’ markets — rain or shine! Green City Market is currently seeking volunteers at our indoor market in Avondale. Take a look at our current opportunities below.

Please note that all roles require folks to stand/sit for the duration of their shift, between two and three hours. Limited chairs are available, please reach out to volunteers@greencitymarket.org for any questions or further accommodations.

Market Ambassadors | LINCOLN PARK AND WEST LOOP

Market Ambassadors assist with general market operations and are the main points of contact for Green City Market customers. Volunteers welcome shoppers, answer questions, maintain a customer count, and assist with market setup and breakdown.

Club Sprouts | LINCOLN PARK AND WEST LOOP

Club Sprouts encourages young people to learn about locally produced, sustainable foods. Volunteers facilitate this learning by leading daily educational activities and tastings for kids at the market.

Farm to Market Field Trip | Lincoln Park

Farm to Market Field Trips welcome CPS classes to the market to connect students with their food. Volunteers help facilitate the Farm to Market Field Trip program by assisting with setup, including field trip supplies and tastings. Once the students arrive, volunteers follow on the field trip and support the Programs Manager to answer questions and distribute tastings.

Special Events

Get involved with Green City Market through one of our special events! Our largest event of the year, Chef BBQ, takes place on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Volunteer opportunities include event setup, ticket scanning, compost support, and event breakdown. Sign up for our volunteer newsletter below and keep an eye out for more Chef BBQ information in late July-early August.

Priority for volunteer signups will be given to volunteers who have volunteered for 10+ hours during the 2024 market season. All other interested volunteers will be able to register once signups are made public. All volunteer opportunities are first-come first-serve, availability for a desired shift cannot be guaranteed.

Chef Parking | Lincoln Park

Chef Parking is a crucial resource to support the connection between local chefs and local farmers. Chef Parking volunteers support those relationships by welcoming chefs to the Lincoln Park market and monitoring the priority parking section on the north side of the park.
